BLACK PEARL STEPCHILD
www.myspace.com/blackpearlstepchild
A local group originally born out of the music of Jimmy McGriff has grown and ventured out to the far reaches of Soul, R+B, Marching Band Music, and the deep roots of Larry Young, P-Funk and intergalactic insanity (with members of Wiggwaum, Sword and Sandals, Womans Worth, Ettrick, and Reagans Memory)
EVIL WIKKID WARRIOR
After his band Hale Zukas broke up on tour, bassist John Benson and daughter Quinn, who is now 10, embarked on a project that began as a movie concept about warriors fighting dragons. Quinn is the leader, and the adults do her bidding. Her newest songs are about Dumpster diving, going to Alaska, and hula-hooping. They are awesome, primitive drum-along headbangers delivered deadpan. Favorite recurring phrases are ‘I don’t know’ and ‘No way!’ the latter directed toward the tyranny of homework (Geroge Chen, SFBG article)
