Home Movie Day is a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking held annually at venues worldwide. Home Movie Day events provide the opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience of their community. It’s a chance to discover why these films are important and to learn how best to care for them.
- 1pm – 2pm: Home Movie Inspection
- 1:30pm – 3pm: Open Home Movie Screening
- 3pm – 4pm: Home Movie Jukebox by Megan & Rick Prelinger
We will project 8mm, Super-8mm, 9.5mm, 16mm films and VHS tapes. All home movies will be inspected and prepared for safe projection before being loaded onto our well maintained projectors and decks, so if you would like to see your movies up on the big screen bring them early, during the inspection period from 1pm to 2pm. We’ll screen your home movies from 1:30pm to 3:00pm, followed by the Home Movie Jukebox featuring audience selected home movies from the Prelinger Archives presented by Megan and Rick Prelinger. ”
Megan and Rick Prelinger are internationally recognized experts on non-theatrical and amateur film. Together they co-founded the Prelinger Library, an independent research library focused on 19th and 20th century historical history that is open to anyone for research, reading, inspiration, and reuse. Rick Prelinger’s audience-participatory Lost Landscapes series: Lost Landscapes of San Francisco, Lost Landscapes of New York, Lost Landscapes of Los Angeles and Lost Landscapes of Detroit have impressed the value and power of home movies upon thousands of attendees across the country and thousands more online viewers around the world.
