OC: MOSTLY TRUE ZINE LAUNCH + PHOTO/FILM BENEFIT

Saturday, July 20, 2024, 6:00 pm, classic-editor

Other Cinema/Bill Daniel‘s midsummer Zine launch! On the occasion of SF‘s annual Art Book Fair, Craig Baldwin/Other Cinema, local maker Linda Scobie, and Bill Daniel join forces for a festive benefit—a photo exhibit, a film screening, and a zine show! The doors of ATA Gallery will be open from 6PM for a Fair after-party and a reception for the just-returned Daniel, back in the Bay Area after 20 years! And he’s back with a  new issue (number 3), of his hobo-journal, Mostly True. Bill will be selling that, plus lots more at one of six tables, alongside Linda Scobie, Anson Cyr, Greta Snider, Nik Nerburn, and Craig Baldwin. Bill‘s Tri-X Noise photos, as well as graphics from Anson Cyr, neon from Linda Scobie, and art from Abby Banks, energize our gallery walls.

The evening will open with a reception, viewing, and tabling. Around 7:30, we’ll see the first of three film/performance “pods”, boasting pieces by Scobie, Martha Colburn, Marshall Weber, Anson Cyr, Greta Snider, and an Art21 episode on Margaret Kilgallen and Twist. A 15-minute break will allow free movement after the first set, before we commence with the second, more film-centered . This  reel includes a rarity from Bruce Conner, a rediscovered Avengers clip,  musical treasures, and the world premiere of Baldwin‘s Double Larynx, an expanded-cinema performance in 3-D! Another break precedes the last pod, this one leaning towards 16mm cult anomalies. Russ Forster blesses us all with his theremin busking on the sidewalk.

The exhibit will also be open for viewing on Sunday from 12-6
