Come out and meet the volunteers who collectively run ATA, one of San Francisco’s oldest nonprofit alternative arts spaces devoted to experimental media.
Why is ATA having a benefit show at Amnesia?
ATA moved into the historic building at 992 Valencia in 1987 when the neighborhood was still affordable and its trendiness was nothing to brag about. Since the sale of the building two years ago to a new owner, ATA’s monthly rent has been increased by over 200% to meet San Francisco’s “market rate”, with more increases on the way. At the same time the main source of city funding for the arts on which ATA depends has been reduced steadily. ATA is run collectively by dedicated volunteers. We choose to keep admission prices low to make the arts accessible to everyone and we don’t charge artists a fee to use our space or to show their work. We’re holding this benefit show to bring attention to the state of the arts and the dying culture of San Francisco and to help fund ATA’s activities in the coming year. ATA thanks Amnesia for its support!
About ATA:
Artists’ Television Access is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer, artist-run, experimental media arts gallery that has been in operation since 1984. ATA hosts a series of film and video screenings, exhibitions and performances by emerging and established artists and a weekly cable access television program.
